Hobnob

Inquisitive Hobnob

Hobnob is a brown/agouti short-haired female, born on 23 September 1997.

Hobnob is the smaller of Guinza’s two babies. She is fairly calm, like her Mother but has a reputation as a bit of a Houdini-pig, managing to wriggle into places she should not be! She is an expert at setting a bad example and making the others follow it. She was the first to climb into the bookcase, nibble fingers and eat the newspaper we use to line the cage.

She is not much of a lap-pig and won’t tolerate being held for long. This is surprising since she has been handled regularly from only a few days old. However, she is the most amenable to being picked up. Hobnob has incredibly thick, agouti hair which she evidently did not get from Guinza – somehow I expected Guinza’s babies to be tri-coloureds like her but neither of them were. Guinea pig genetics are certainly a mystery to me!

During the early part of 2000, Hobnob gave us a bit of a scare when she became ill and had to have an operation to remove a bladder stone. Fortunately we were able to find a wonderful rodentologist and vet who took very good care of her and she made a full and speedy recovery.
